The 2013 Annual Conference for the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies is Oct. 9-10 in Bowling Green at the Sloane Convention Center/Holiday Inn University Plaza.
The theme for this year’s conference “Social Studies: Charting a Course for the Future” reflects the many disciplines and routes that teachers take as they prepare students for life after graduation.
The conference offers 35+ sessions covering many of the disciplines of social studies, as well as literacy, integration/interdisciplinary studies, college-career readiness and many other exciting topics.
This year’s keynote speakers include Dr. Kathy Swan, lead writer and UK professor, and with Charles Hall, Social Studies Consultant with the Kentucky Department of Education. Swan will open the conference with a plenary session on College, Career and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Inquiry in Social Studies State Standards. Hall will conclude the conference with a discussion on how the C3 Framework is being used in writing the Kentucky Core Academic Standards for Social Studies.
