Kentucky schools and teachers can apply for TranspArtation grants from the Kentucky Arts Council for arts-related field trips.
The grants are available for any school, public or private, that supports grades pre-K through 12th grade, to assist with transportation costs to and from arts field trips and events. The field trips must be taken between Oct. 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015.
Grants are awarded quarterly and are based on mileage from the school building to the arts organization or performance venue and the number of buses necessary. The minimum grant amount is $100.
“This program ensures teachers who are eager to provide arts education experiences to their students have multiple opportunities to do so,” said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director.
The field trips must be to one of several pre-approved arts venues in the Kentucky Arts Partnership program that have demonstrated appropriate arts programming and that provide supplemental materials to teachers and schools.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
