For many school field trips, a visit to Kentucky’s capital city isn’t complete without going to Frankfort Cemetery to see the burial site of Rebecca and Daniel Boone.

While visitors and especially school children are always welcome, the staff at Frankfort Cemetery would like to remind educators that burials still occur regularly at the cemetery. The increased flow of traffic during school visits can sometimes cause difficulties during a funeral service.

Before visiting the cemetery, school officials are asked to call the Frankfort Cemetery office at (502) 227-2403 and speak to either Ann Johnson or Sara Stewart, or call (502) 229-5424 and speak to grounds supervisor Chris Shields. Cemetery staff will need to know when the trip is scheduled, what time the group is expected to arrive and a contact name and phone number.

“We love having school groups and hope they leave with a better understanding of Kentucky history and enjoy their time here on the grounds,” said Ann Johnson, office administrator at Frankfort Cemetery. “We would like to thank all of Kentucky’s teachers in advance for their efforts in educating the Commonwealth’s children on the rich history of the state and for their efforts in helping us better serve people in their time of need.”
