KCM schedules professional learning events for 2017-18

The Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM) is offering six free professional learning events for middle school mathematics teachers during the 2017-18 school year.

Here is the schedule of workshops:

  • “Foundations for Middle Grades 6 & 7” – Sept. 25-26, Nov. 20-21 and Feb. 12-13, Lexington; or Sept. 28-29, Nov. 14-15 and Jan. 30-31, Louisville.

Offered in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), this workshop will allow middle school teachers to gain a greater understanding of how 6th- and 7th-grade students learn mathematics. This workshop will offer evidence-based intervention strategies for use with struggling students and resources for identifying and analyzing student misconceptions.
The registration deadline is Aug. 21.

  • “Explorations in Mathematical Lessons for Middle School” – Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 26-27, location TBA in central Kentucky

This workshop will allow participants to collaboratively plan middle school mathematics lessons and to observe those lessons being taught in a classroom by a master teacher.
The registration deadline is Aug. 21.

  • “Explorations in Grades 8 – Algebra” – Oct. 23, Lexington; or Oct. 25, Louisville

Offered in partnership with KDE, this workshop for 8th-grade teachers focuses on algebra and graphing.
The registration deadline is Sept. 18.

  • “Explorations in Grades 6 & 7 – Integers” – Nov. 6, Lexington; or Nov. 8, Louisville

Offered in partnership with KDE, this workshop for 6th- and 7th-grade teachers focuses on integers and integer operations.
The registration deadline is Oct. 2.

  • “Explorations in Mathematical Lessons for Algebra I” – Jan. 25-26, location TBA in central Kentucky

This workshop will allow participants to collaboratively plan Algebra I lessons and to observe those lessons being taught in a classroom by a master teacher.
The registration deadline is Dec. 11.

  • “Explorations in Grade 6 – Geometry” – March 14, Lexington; or March 16, Louisville

Offered in partnership with KDE, this workshop for 6th-grade teachers focuses on geometry.
The registration deadline is Feb. 12.
