Great things are happening in the Elliott County school district! Student achievement and meeting the needs of all students continue to be the primary goals. The district saw a great turnaround in that effort in the release of the 2014 School Report Card. Four of five schools were designated by the Kentucky Department of Education as being High-Progress schools and the district received the distinction of being a High-Progress district.

There is still room for improvement and that improvement will be made through a continued focus on the needs of individual learners. A variety of strategies are being used to ensure that continued growth in accountability is occurring and, more importantly, to give students those skills and knowledge that they need to be successful as they transition to careers and postsecondary education. At the secondary level the district recently resumed a relationship with the Morgan County Area Technology Center in an effort to provide instruction in high-demand and high-wage vocational fields for students who previously had no access. This relationship also is a vital component to improving college- and career-readiness rates in the district. Through reorganization of academic departments, increase in quality professional learning activities and effective use of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Elliott County High School continues to improve student achievement.

At the primary and intermediate levels, schools continue to focus on intervention with struggling learners. Teachers and administrators work in PLCs on data analysis and development of strategies to improve student achievement. Focusing on gap improvement, schools have implemented Co-Teaching for Gap Closure (CT4GC) with the district’s educational cooperative to ensure students’ needs are being met.

As for facilities, Elliott County is improving as well. The district recently finished a complete remodel of Lakeside Elementary School. Also, Elliott County High School began the first phase of a multi-year renovation project to meet 21st-century standards.

Elliott County looks forward to continued improvement through the engagement of its students, parents, teachers and administrators.
