Three finalists named for 2021 Special Education Teacher of the Year award

Three Kentucky teachers have been named finalists for the 2021 Special Education Teacher of the Year award. Sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Office of Special Education and Early Learning and the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children (KYCEC), the award is a way to recognize and honor an outstanding teacher in the field of special education.

KDE releases new guidance on hybrid schedules for public schools

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has released a new guidance document, Guidance for Offering a Hybrid Performance-Based Schedule, to support districts in implementing a hybrid schedule for grades 5-12 by utilizing their board’s policy on performance-based courses. Districts may use a hybrid schedule at the request of students and families as an additional COVID-19 mitigation strategy to assist with social distancing.

KDE releases new guidance document on face coverings in school facilities

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) released a new guidance document, Non-regulatory Guidance: Face Coverings, which elaborates upon the regulation issued by the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) that requires the use of face coverings in all school facilities across Kentucky. This guidance document is intended to provide support for schools and districts as they work to implement the new requirements.
