The Kentucky Department of Education’s School Counselor Advisory Council (SCAC) held its first meeting of the year on Sept. 28 to discuss suicide prevention in Kentucky.
Angela Dilts-Pollock values not only educating her students, but also helping them to grow into who they are and who they will become. “It’s my job to help students discover who they are and how to be the best version of themselves,” said Pollock. “Teaching of content comes after, when students feel safe in my classroom and that I care about them as humans.”
Kevin Dailey, a middle school social studies teacher at Ballyshannon Middle School in Boone County, has been named the 2024 Kentucky Teacher of the Year. "I am really blessed and honored to be able to represent 40,000 plus teachers in Kentucky," Dailey said. "This day is about all of our kids and all of our families. This day is about Kentucky."
Every day in Kumar Rashad’s classroom is a call for urgency. “Many of my students have died or got shot and killed,” said Rashad, a mathematics teacher at Breckinridge Metropolitan High School in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), an alternative school with students who have been in the criminal justice system.

Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter will be holding its 6th annual golf scramble fundraiser at the Wildwood Country Club at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 21. All event proceeds will help provide hunger-free weekends for local students within Jefferson County Public Schools.
