The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc. announced July 18 the selection of 24 outstanding Kentucky educators as recipients of the 2023 Valvoline™ Teacher Achievement Awards.
The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc. have selected 24 outstanding Kentucky educators as recipients of the 2022 Valvoline™ Teacher Achievement Awards (TAA). These teachers qualify to compete for the 2022 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced in September.
On July 1, Danny Adkins will start his new job as superintendent in Woodford County. He will succeed Scott Hawkins, who is retiring at the end of June after 13 years. Adkins has served as Floyd County superintendent since 2018.
Leadership from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) met virtually with the Superintendents Advisory Council (SAC) on May 13 to seek input and feedback ahead of the implementation of recently passed education legislation.
Shubh Gupta, a junior at duPont Manual High School (Jefferson County) and Alex Marion Young, a junior at Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, were selected to participate in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) during the 59th annual USSYP Washington Week, to be held March 14-17.

Kentucky FFA was well represented at the 93rd Annual National FFA Convention, held virtually Oct. 27-29. More than 100,000 FFA members, advisers and supporters registered for the event, which also was broadcast live on RFD TV.
The Kentucky Department for Public Health is developing a website that will allow Kentucky’s schools to self-report COVID-19 cases to their communities. Dr. Connie White explained how the website will work during the Kentucky Department of Education’s Superintendent Advisory Council meeting on Aug. 31.
The Kentucky Department of Education’s Superintendents Advisory Council held its virtual meeting on June 22 and much like previous advisory council meetings convened by the department, the primary focus remained on reopening schools in the fall.

To provide additional opportunities for superintendents to have their voices heard, Interim Education Commissioner Kevin C. Brown reconvened the department’s Superintendents Advisory Council.
