Read Across America program offers grants to purchase diverse books

The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America program offers grants to public schools serving economically disadvantaged students to purchase diverse books for public school libraries. Grants ranging from $250 to $1,000 are available to address the literacy gap by providing educators with book resources to promote life-long reading habits as part of 21st-century learning skills.

Read Across America emphasizes the need for diverse books and authors to inspire a growing diverse student population to read. The goal of providing diverse books, authors and themes is highlighted in the Read Across America resource calendar and online curriculum, which features 36 award-winning books for year-long activities.

The application deadline is March 30. Applicants must be NEA members. Visit this document on the NEA’s website for more information or to apply.
