U.S. Marine Corps summer academy open to sophomores, juniors

The United States Marine Corps offers an immersive leadership experience for high school students June 15-20 at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Quantico, Va.

The Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA) is open to high school sophomores and juniors (class of 2021 or 2022). One hundred twenty students will be selected from more than 1,000 applications.

Participants are introduced to the Marine Corps leadership principles, mission, core values and military culture. Participants will be challenged to step outside of their comfort zones and to strengthen their confidence and leadership skills. They will be exposed to the teachings and lessons of many Marine Corps leaders and be surrounded by a diverse range of students. Physical training and scenario-based reaction courses will be emphasized throughout the week. Students are expected to graduate the program more confident and equipped to improve the lives of those around them and will be postured to become better leaders at home, at school and in their communities.

The application deadline is Jan. 31. Visit the SLCDA website or the SLCDA Facebook and Instagram pages for more information.
