Kentucky Ornithological Society offers funding opportunities

The Kentucky Ornithological Society (KOS) offers two funding opportunities to help students who are interested in studying birds and/or a career in the field.

Funding is available to sponsor high school students who are accepted to the Cornell Lab Young Birders Event June 25-28 in Ithaca, N.Y. The Young Birders Event aims to bring together teenagers who have a passion for birds and are interested in pursuing a career in the field. Students who will enter grades 9-12 in summer 2020 are eligible for the event; 16 will be selected.

The application deadline is March 15. Use this application to apply for the Young Birders Event, or email Jeff Sole to learn more about KOS sponsorship for participation.

KOS also is encouraging adults in Kentucky who educate young people about the birds in the state to apply for funding of up to $500 for projects that fulfill the goals of the Anne L. Stamm Avian Education Fund, which was established to continue Stamm’s tireless efforts to educate young persons about the avifauna of Kentucky and to foster a genuine interest in monitoring and protecting their populations.

Applications may be submitted at any time; allow six weeks for review and a preliminary response. Visit KOS’ website for more information.
