Historical society presents workshop on visual thinking strategies

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is offering a teacher workshop focused on visual thinking strategies (VTS) Feb. 19 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.

The workshop, open to teachers in grades pre-K-8, will offer an overview of VTS, a teaching method that allows students to voice their opinions and insights about an image by pulling from their background knowledge and providing evidence for their thoughts. Participants will learn how to engage students when analyzing photographs, maps, symbols and other visual documents. The teacher asks questions that draw them into the images, and students provide answers to help facilitate problem-solving and deeper learning.

The workshop will include instruction from KHS staff, teaching resources, breakfast and lunch. The registration deadline is Feb. 12. Visit the KHS website for more information or to register.
