Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) will host a workshop designed to help educators deepen their understanding of the progression of fractions July 24-25 at its training facility in Bowling Green.
“The Power of Progressions: Untangling the Knotty Areas of Teaching and Learning Fractions” is designed for mathematics teachers in grades 3-6, curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches and special education teachers and directors. Participants will explore effective methods for teaching fractions, engage in grade appropriate three-act tasks and learn how problem-based lessons can be used throughout the scope of a unit and how to harness the power of these lessons to move student thinking forward.
The workshop will be led by Graham Fletcher, a mathematics specialist who has worked with math progressions and problem-based lessons. Fletcher will demonstrate how low-entry, high-scalability tasks can be used to reach all students.
