KAPHERD to hold annual conference in Lexington


The Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAPHERD) will hold its annual convention Nov. 11-13 at Embassy Suites Lexington.

The convention will feature two keynote presentations from national experts in the field of health and physical education, who also will lead workshops aligned to the proposed revised Kentucky Academic Standards for health and physical education:

  • Brian Devore, the SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) America Southern District president-elect and the Online Physical Education Network (OPEN) National Trainer of the Year, will lead the physical education workshop Nov. 11 and present a keynote address on the role of social and emotional learning Nov. 12.
  • Jessica Lawrence, the director of Cairn Guidance, will lead the health education workshop Nov. 12 and present a keynote address entitled “#DoSomethingExtraordinary” Nov. 13.

Other sessions will include SHAPE America Southern District Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Angela Stark and SHAPE America Midwest District High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Kalie McKinley.
