Students invited to youth bluegrass music competition

The Kentucky Fellowship of Musicians will host a youth bluegrass music competition for students in grades 5-12 Jan. 28 at Marion County High School in Lebanon as part of the Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff 2017.

Students may perform a traditional bluegrass music piece in guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin or vocal categories in one of two competition brackets. There will be a $50 prize for first place in grades 5-8 and a $100 prize in grades 9-12, and both winners will be invited to play on the main stage during the festival.

There also will be a series of workshops for people interested in learning to play or learning more technique in playing bluegrass instruments. Workshops will be held on the banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin and Dobro.
