School cooking teams are invited to apply for the sixth season of Farm to School Junior Chef competition, which teaches essential food preparation skills and emphasizes buying nutritious local Kentucky Proud foods.
The contest, presented by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and Sullivan University, is for teams of two to five high school and middle school students. Teams will compete in cook-offs to advance in the competition. Regional champions will vie for college scholarships and other prizes, including the coveted skillet trophy, in the state Junior Chef Tournament at the Kentucky State Fair in August.
More than $100,000 in scholarship opportunities will be awarded to members of the top four teams, and the winning team will advance to the Southeastern Junior Chef tournament to compete against teams from seven other states.
The entry deadline is March 15. Visit the Department of Agriculture’s website for more information.
