Applications are open for the 26th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for “exemplary young volunteers.”
The program is open to students in all 50 states and the District of Columbia who were in grades 5 through 12 as of Nov. 5, 2019, and who have participated in a volunteer activity since Sept. 1, 2018.
Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the awards have recognized more than 140,000 middle and high school student volunteers since 1995.
Applications will be accepted until Nov. 10 at Spirit.prudential.com. All middle school and high school principals and top guidance officers should have received a packet with details.
Students fill out online applications themselves and submit them to their principals. Each school will then select their top volunteers, present them with certificates and cite them as role models.
Schools may select one middle-school honoree for every 1,000 students in grades 5 through 8, and another for every 1,000 students in grades 9 through 12.
A state-level panel will select top applicants to receive $1,000 scholarships, silver medallions and invitation to a national recognition event.
Five middle and five high school students will be national honorees, receiving a $5,000 scholarship, gold medallion, a trophy for their school, and a $5,000 grant for the nonprofit charity of their choice.
