Spanish embassy honors Fayette elementary school

Maxwell Spanish Immersion Magnet Elementary School (Fayette County) has been named the 2018-19 School of the Year by the Embassy of Spain’s Education Office in Washington, D.C. The award goes to schools in the United States that demonstrate excellence in content and language integrated learning programs in English and Spanish.

Maxwell Elementary, which was Kentucky’s first whole-school immersion program, has a nearly 30-year record of fostering Spanish language proficiency, academic achievement and global competence. Students at the school spend half the day learning in English and half the day learning in Spanish.
