The Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative has named Carol Hyatt, a special education teacher at Lansdowne Elementary School (Fayette County), as Fayette County’s 2018-2019 Outstanding Educator.
Hyatt was chosen because of her commitment to providing high quality, evidence-based instruction to her students and using data to drive her instruction. She received the award May 24 at a luncheon in Lexington.
During the 2018-2019 school year, Hyatt piloted Minds In Motion, a program designed to improve learning and coordination through strengthening the core vestibular system for learners. She worked to create the mazes and change the activities from week to week, and several classrooms reported great success. Pre- and post-test data from fall to spring indicated significant increases in students’ working memory and eye tracking, and Hyatt’s analysis of other data indicated significant improvement in the reading accuracy, writing organization and behavior for her students with Individualized Education Programs.
