Lori Vogel, a child guidance specialist at Leestown Middle School (Fayette County), has been named the 2019 Kentucky School Social Worker of the Year by the Kentucky Association for School Social Work (KASSW).
Vogel, who also serves as president of KASSW, was recognized in September at the KASSW conference in Georgetown and in October at the Midwest Council for School Social Work conference. She will compete for the National School Social Work Award, which will be presented by the School Social Work Association of America March 18-21 in Baltimore.
Vogel has spent 20 years in the Fayette County schools. Prior to assuming her current role at Leestown Middle School, she was a Title I school social worker at Northern Elementary and Jessie Clark Middle schools and a child guidance specialist at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary School. Previously, she worked for three years as a school-based mental health provider at Julia R. Ewan, Northern, and Ashland elementaries. She also worked for Bluegrass Comprehensive Care Centers.
