In recent years, K-PREP assessment scores in the Leslie County school district have consistently improved with the district receiving a Proficient/High Progress rating for the 2014-15 school year.
Individual school successes include Leslie County High School which was classified as a Distinguished high school, scored a 100 percent graduation rate for the 2015-16 school year and was given a top 10 College and Career Readiness rating. Hayes Lewis Elementary School (preschool – 8th grade) was recognized as a School of Distinction at the middle school level and each of the district’s elementary schools were recognized as High Progress schools in the top 10 percent of improvement in student achievement.
A greater emphasis has been placed on technology and digital learning. The district just completed a total network refresh and installed 190 wireless access points to provide dense wireless to all classrooms. The connections among all schools are being upgraded to a 10 GB fiber connection. These infrastructure upgrades are being done in preparation for the district’s one-to-one digital initiative beginning with the 2016-17 school year.
In a continued effort to increase parent involvement and communication, Leslie County will use a mobile app that will allow parents and the community to receive information from multiple sources at one location. This new service will provide push alerts for grades, attendance, food service accounts, school social media feeds and other school-related events directly to an individual’s phone.
Participation in the Kentucky School Boards Association’s Energy Management Program has produced significant energy savings that are being reinvested into improvements to the student learning environment. Recent LED upgrades at Leslie County High School and Stinnett Elementary School are resulting in long-term savings for the district.
With a continued focus on using data to drive student instruction, district leadership, staff and teachers are confident that Leslie County school district’s greatest achievements are ahead.
