University of Pikeville hosting film and media arts festival

The University of Pikeville will host the UPIKE Film & Media Arts Festival April 26-28 in the new Health Professions Building at the UPIKE campus.

Entry into the competition is free for Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia students. The competition offers more than $1,000 in cash prizes, and high school seniors will be eligible to receive a scholarship to study film at UPIKE.

The festival has categories specifically for middle school and high school students. Multiple types of films (narrative fiction, documentary, animation and music videos) and films of all lengths will be accepted. However, shorter entries of 10 minutes or less will increase a student’s odds of being selected. The final deadline for entries is March 11.

More information and instructions on how to submit a digital copy of your film are available on the UPIKE Film & Media Arts Festival website. For questions, email Assistant Professor of Film & Media Arts Andrew Reed.
