The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Brandon K. Davis was elected to the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization’s Board of Directors during the National Association of State Supervisors of Agricultural Education Conference on Oct. 26.

Davis is an agricultural education consultant in KDE’s Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE).

In this role, Davis will shape policy and provide direction for the national organization, which has more than 700,000 members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. He will represent the eastern region on the board of directors for a three-year term beginning in January. He also serves on the Kentucky FFA Board of Trustees and the Kentucky FFA Alumni and Supporters Council.

“It is an honor to be selected by my peers to serve on the National FFA Board of Directors,” said Davis. “In order to continue to be a place where students find value in membership, FFA must continually seek out ways to be innovative in programing, remove barriers and reflect an ever-changing agriculture industry. I am excited for this opportunity and look forward to joining other leaders in agricultural education to support an organization that has been changing lives for almost a century.“

Davis’ first experience with FFA was attending the Green County FFA banquet at 5 years old. He joined FFA as a freshman in 1996 and served as the chapter president and regional president. In June 2000, he was elected as the Kentucky FFA State Sentinel.

“Those experiences helped inform my decision to major in agricultural education at Western Kentucky University and become a teacher of agriculture,” said Davis. “While I no longer wear the blue corduroy jacket, I still feel the same passion for the organization I did when I first joined 25 years ago.”

Davis previously served as president of the National Association of Supervisors of Agricultural Education (NASAE) and was selected as NASAE New Member of the Year in 2014.
