The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is committed to equal opportunities for all people. We have made every effort to make this entire website fully accessible to people with disabilities. Even so, we understand that some of our site content may not achieve that goal. For that reason, we offer to make anything that is found on our website available in alternative formats upon request. To request an alternative format of any of our Web pages, or to suggest accessibility improvements, please contact the administrator of this site using the contact information below.

If you or someone you know has difficulty reading and would like to have the KDE website read to you, then visit Browsealoud for a free download of text reading software from TextHELP Systems, Ltd. After downloading this software, as your mouse hovers over any text on the KDE website, the computer will automatically read it to you. You will also have full control to set the speed and pitch of your chosen voice, and user defined hotkeys can activate and deactivate speech.
System requirements: Windows 95,98,98SE, NT, 2000 and XP – Does not work with MAC as the more recent MAC software (i.e., OS 9 & 10) already offers free textreading capabilities. The download takes about 10 minutes using a 56K modem.
This service is provided at no cost to the Kentucky Department of Education and its users as a result of the department’s successful collaboration with TextHELP in improving accessibility to learning for all students. Kentucky residents are eligible for discounts on TextHELP products. Visit the TextHELP Website, then click on the Client Login at the top of the page. Then enter the Kentucky ID “UDL” and the password “ETEXT.” Kentucky residents can then click on the TextHELP Order Form to obtain the special Kentucky prices.
