The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has partnered with the Frazier History Museum to showcase what a social studies learning experience aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Social Studies looks like in practice. This webinar is designed to deepen participants’ social studies content knowledge and pedagogy.

In this presentation, representatives from KDE will support teachers in breaking down a disciplinary standard. Then, representatives from the Frazier History Museum will engage participants in a sample learning experience using their resources. This learning experience is designed for participants’ use in their own classrooms with their students. Webinar participants are asked to engage in vibrant, inquiry-based learning symmetrical to what is intended for the student experience while also reflecting on their practice as teachers.

This webinar will take place on Tuesday, May 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. ET. Please complete the Grade 8 History Webinar form to register. Since this webinar is designed to be interactive and symmetrical to the student’s learning experience, we encourage you to attend the session live. Depending on district policies and if approved at the local level, participants may receive professional development hours for their participation in the workshop.

Participants who attend the live session also may receive an Effective Instructional Leadership Act (EILA) certificate to verify their attendance. Please work with your district or principal to determine if these hours are eligible. A recording will be available on kystandards.org after the event.
