About a year ago, someone from the Kentucky Education Association reached out to our office and asked if we would like to display the drawings our public school students did as part of their Difference Makers Art Contest. As those drawings were recently being taken down, it got me thinking about how they connect to the department’s efforts on teacher diversity and teacher recruitment.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) announced 10 Grow-Your-Own (GYO) program grant recipients at an Aug. 16 press conference. These districts will receive a one-time, $50,000 grant to further boost the Commonwealth’s teacher talent pipeline, with the goal of providing all students with a high-quality education.
High school and college students from across Kentucky who are looking to pursue careers in education participated in the 2021 Educators Rising National Conference, which was held virtually June 24-27.
Educators Rising Kentucky is proud to announce that one of their own student leaders has been selected to serve as the national vice president of programs for Educators Rising for the 2021-2022 school year.

High school students across Kentucky who are interested in education as a career spent several days in the Texas heat at the Educators Rising Conference June 22-25 in Dallas.
The Educators Rising curriculum, which can be offered through the Teaching and Learning pathway, gives students that are interested in education a hands-on teaching experience, sustains their interest in the profession and helps them develop the skills they need to be successful educators.
