During the Aug. 12 Superintendents Webcast, Kentucky Department of Education leadership fielded questions regarding an emergency regulation passed by the Kentucky Board of Education requiring universal masking in public schools.
The Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) approved an emergency regulation on Aug. 12 to require all individuals inside public school facilities to wear a face covering. The move came at an emergency meeting in response to the highly contagious COVID-19 delta variant.

The Local Superintendents Advisory Council (LSAC) on Aug. 3 approved an emergency regulation related to paid leave for district employees who are quarantined due to COVID-19.
The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Local Superintendents Advisory Council (LSAC) conducted its regular meeting on July 27 to approve several regulations and amendments, including a new regulation governing how the student and teacher representatives for the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) will be selected.
During its May 25 meeting, the Local Superintendents Advisory Council (LSAC) approved updated regulation 702 KAR 7:150 to align with statutes put in place last year by House Bill (HB) 458. The council also repealed 704 KAR 7:120 in order to permit the creation of the new regulation. Mandated by KRS 156.004, the council meets to review any proposed administrative regulations and educational policies before they go before the Kentucky Board of Education.
The Kentucky Department of Education is moving ahead with aligning special education regulations with federal law, as well as clarifying special education regulations for districts.
During a Jan. 26 virtual meeting, members of the Local Superintendents Advisory Council voted to recommend that the Kentucky Board of Education approve changes to state’s accountability system to align it with Senate Bill 158 (2020).
