Let me start off by saying this is the continuation of something so admirable for the future of this Board of Education and the students of our Commonwealth. The work we have done these past two years will transcend far beyond this current moment and soon touch every stakeholder in this system.
I’m Solyana Mesfin, a senior at Eastern High School (Jefferson County), and I currently serve as the nonvoting student ex officio member on the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE). As my time comes to an end, I encourage students in the 4th Congressional District to apply for this position!
The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council had the opportunity to discuss teacher recruitment and retention and the rights of students in schools during its Jan. 25 meeting.
