EPSB hears recommendations for new teacher certification grade bands

Members of the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) heard recommendations for new certification grade bands from the Certification Structure Workgroup at their meeting on June 17. The work group was created in October 2024 to analyze and suggest potential areas of reform within Kentucky’s teacher certification structure. The group has 32 members, including legislators, educators, school and district administrators, human resource directors, and educator preparation providers.

Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board approves alternate licensure assessments

The Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) has expanded assessment options for educators seeking a teaching certificate. EPSB members during their Dec. 12 meeting approved a -1 standard error of measure (SEM) for the cut score for Praxis assessments. The EPSB also approved the use of the Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) to meet the content and pedagogy assessment of 16 KAR 6:010.

TEK task force presents recommendations

The Governor’s Task Force on Transforming Education in Kentucky (TEK) presented Gov. Steve Beshear with its final report, including 35 recommendations that the group believes would enable Kentucky to better prepare all of its students for success in the 21st century, on Feb. 21.
