Teacher who didn’t get to pilot readiness screener excited to see its effect on her students.
It’s more important to write than be right sometimes, especially in grades K-2, educators say.
A stop by South Hancock Elementary School yielded an early education surprise. The school, including principal Barbara Spindel and Family Resource and Youth Services Center coordinator Kim Mitchell, started a new program for preschool-aged children called Little Stars.
The first day of school is an emotional event, sometimes more for parents than students. I like shooting the first day, especially for kindergarten students. The variety of emotions and little moments is wonderful. And it is one of the few times in the school year I’m able to photograph parent interaction.
Schools and districts will have to work with early childhood providers to better prepare children for kindergarten.
Young children are drawn to informational text, especially when the subject interests them.
