Every year, qualified Kentucky students miss out on college — not because they can’t get in, but because they never apply. Some don’t realize they already meet admission requirements. Some assume college isn’t an option for them. Others simply run out of time or support to navigate the process.
The My Kentucky Future Act flips that script. Instead of waiting on students to apply, it lets Kentucky’s public colleges and universities reach out directly and say, “You already qualify, here’s how to enroll.”
For students who may have limited access to college guidance or those who are still discovering their potential, that one message of encouragement can make the difference between considering college a possibility and taking the first step toward enrollment.
- Students who are opted into the program are directly expanding college access and opportunity, with almost no added work for school counselors or other designated support staff.
- Students lose nothing by opting in. They keep every choice about where (or whether) to enroll, this just makes sure they hear from colleges and universities that already want them.
- A few minutes of time to opt in this fall can open doors for students who might never have applied on their own.
What the Law Requires
Under the My Kentucky Future Act, House Bill 307, every public school district each year must:
- Invite every high school student to opt in to the program and choose how they’d like to be contacted.
- Report to the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), no later than July 1, which students opted in and their preferred contact method.
Tools to Get It Done
KDE has built the Proactive Postsecondary Admissions Opt-In Form directly into Infinite Campus, so districts can manage this with minimal extra effort:
- Batch-assign the form to students 18 and older, and to caregivers of younger students, all at once. Step-by-step instructions are in Section C of the Data Standard Proactive Postsecondary Admissions document.
- Need a paper version? A printable Proactive Postsecondary Admissions Opt-In Form is available for families who request one. District staff will need to manually enter responses into Infinite Campus so they’re captured in KDE’s database.
- After July 1, KDE will generate a file from the data collected in Infinite Campus and deliver it to Kentucky’s postsecondary institutions — no extra step needed from districts.
Recommended Timeline
KDE recommends rolling out the form during the first two weeks of November, alongside “Govember,” for the 2026-2027 school year. In future years, districts can choose to fold the form into Online Registration or continue assigning it each November.
