The annual Secretary of State Essay and Slogan Contest, now in its 26th year, offers an opportunity for students to become engaged in the democratic process and demonstrate a commitment to active citizenship, as well as to earn recognition and valuable prizes.

The essay contest is open to students in grades 9-12, and the slogan contest is for students in grades 6-8. The purpose of the competition, which was created by the Kentucky General Assembly, is to expand the civic awareness of students who are about to be eligible to vote in local, state and national elections and to highlight the importance of this essential element of our democratic society.

Entries must be submitted by Dec. 12. Winners will earn cash prizes of up to $1,000. Go here for contest rules, entry forms and more information.
