Murray State University will offer a course on teaching literature online during the 2015 spring semester. “ENG 602: Teaching Literature in Schools” can be applied toward a master’s degree or toward the 30-and-above requirement in an English or education degree.

Dystopian literature is quite the fad right now, but should a teacher add this to the CCSS curriculum? This class looks at young adult literature, as well as the traditional readings, for the middle and high school classroom. The focus on using more young adult literature to motivate readers and support the classical selections is spreading across Kentucky and beyond.

The course will be taught by Deborah Bell, Ph.D., an assistant professor and the president of the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English. Register for the class here, or for more information, e-mail Bell at dbell@murraystate.edu.
