The English-Speaking Union, Kentucky Branch, Shakespeare Competition will be March 6 at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

The competition is open to high school students, who read, analyze, perform and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets in three qualifying stages: at the school, community and national levels.

The program begins in classrooms nationwide in fall and early winter, culminating in school-wide competitions in which students perform a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays. At the branch community competition, students will perform their monologue and a Shakespearean sonnet. The winner of the branch competition advances to the national competition in New York next spring, and the national winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to study acting in England.
