The Kentucky National Guard is asking for schools across the state to help with fundraising for the construction of its National Guard Memorial in Frankfort.
The memorial will create a sacred space for families, friends and comrades to reflect and remember and also will serve as a classroom for those wishing to learn about the National Guard’s service to the state and the nation.
Last fall, King Middle School (Mercer County) raised $5,000 in less than 60 days toward the construction of the Kentucky National Guard Memorial. The memorial needs an additional $300,000 by early May to break ground on Memorial Day and start construction. Your school can join those schools and districts that have already committed to the “Pennies for Honor” fundraiser.
It’s as simple as letting your school community know that you are collecting loose change and then donating it to the memorial fund. Schools/districts meeting designated fundraising levels will be recognized on an engraved paver next to the memorial.
