The Speech Education Alliance of Kentucky (SPEAK) conference will be Sept. 30 at the University of Kentucky. Information and registration is available online at www.kyspeak.org.

This conference is a joint educational professional development day sponsored by the four competitive speaking groups in Kentucky – the National Forensic League; the Kentucky High School Speech League; the Kentucky Educational Speech and Drama Association; and the Kentucky Catholic Forensic League.

These four groups have joined to together to offer SPEAK for the new standards now in effect.

Training will be offered for teachers at all levels of readiness, with an emphasis on teachers new to teaching and coaching public speaking and the speaking and listening standards.

Sessions offered include how to begin a speech and debate program at a school; how to structure a basic speech class; how to teach various types of debate both in and out of the classroom; and how to use extracurricular speech activities to fulfill the Program Review requirements in arts and humanities.

The deadline to register is Sept. 26.
