The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) will offer four one-day seminars in its China Studies for Kentucky Teachers program beginning in December. Topics will be Chinese religions and philosophies, Chinese art, Chinese literature and Chinese history. The seminars are designed to enrich social studies teachers’ knowledge of the topics so they can be integrated into their classrooms.

The first seminar will be on Chinese history Dec. 10 at the University of Kentucky. Other seminars will be Jan. 21, March 18 and April 15.

UKCI will provide course reading materials and facilitate a discussion on how to implement the knowledge into their lesson plans and connect it to state standards.

Teachers may attend one or more sessions. UKCI will provide accommodations for teachers coming from more than three hours away and mileage reimbursement. Teachers who attend all four will be eligible to apply for a fellowship to join a two-week study tour to China organized by UKCI.
