The American Geosciences Institute/ExxonMobil Exploration Teacher Leadership Academies is recruiting teachers for its annual institute next summer in Houston. Two week-long academies – one June 25-30 for teachers in grades K-5 and one July 16-21 for middle school teachers – help prepare a cadre of teachers to share key ideas in the geosciences with their colleagues, students and others.

Participants have the opportunity to interact with their peers from other states, develop skills and knowledge for teaching Earth and space science and develop plans for presenting effective teacher workshops.

Teachers are encouraged to apply as teams of two or more, but it is not required. Selected teachers should have support from their school system to make presentations to colleagues (in their own school systems, at conferences, et cetera) to help spread geoscience awareness to other teachers in addition to their own students. The academy will pay for participants’ travel, lodging and meals and materials.

The priority review date for applicants is March 10, but applications will be accepted until the academy is filled. Click these links for more information on the K-5 and middle school academies.
