While she may not have been rhyming as she talked, Katrina Cyrus spent March 2 dressed as the Cat in the Hat to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

The kindergarten teacher at Southern Elementary in Georgetown spent two weeks, along with the help of five other teachers and an aid, decorating the kindergarten hallway to illustrate the story of “The Cat in the Hat.”

“We had been talking about what we wanted to do for our doors for Read Across America week,” said Cyrus. “And it just turned into this.”

The teachers even came in over the weekend to work on the project.

“Who knows how many hours we put in on those Sundays,” said Kim Brown, another teacher who took part in the project.

Children also got to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters.
