Greg Conn, Knott County Superintendent

I am excited to share that Knott County Schools is launching a new professional development initiative designed to cultivate and support the next generation of educational leaders. Together with our instructional supervisors, we are opening the door for teachers who aspire to become principals, supervisors, and administrators to begin preparing for that next step in their careers.

The Professional Development Cadre is a unique opportunity for teachers to engage in monthly sessions that focus on the broad responsibilities of school leadership. My goal is to ensure that every participant gains not only the knowledge but also the confidence to excel when called to lead.

A Holistic Approach to Leadership Preparation

This program will cover the wide range of skills that school leaders must master, including:

  • School Finance – Developing an understanding of how financial decisions shape schools and student opportunities.
  • Redbook Compliance – Learning the ins and outs of Kentucky’s financial regulations for schools.
  • School Reports & Assessments – Building skills in analyzing data to improve instruction and student outcomes.
  • Policies and Compliance – Navigating the legal and policy requirements that guide school operations.
  • Conflict Resolution & Personnel Management – Preparing to lead staff, resolve challenges, and build strong teams.
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) – Supporting every student through academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
  • Transportation – Understanding the logistics of getting students safely to and from school.
  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) – Leading collaborative groups that improve instruction and student learning.
  • Federal Program Initiatives – Using federal funding responsibly and equitably to support all students.
  • Curriculum & Assessments – Designing, implementing, and measuring effective learning for all students.

These sessions will blend theory with practice, guided by our experienced instructional supervisors. They will not only teach, but also mentor and encourage participants to reflect, grow, and lead with compassion and integrity.

A Vision for the Future of Knott County Schools

My vision is clear: I want Knott County Schools to have a strong pipeline of leaders who are ready to serve with competence, fairness, and a deep commitment to our students. By investing in the professional growth of our teachers, we are also investing in the future of our schools and community.

I am proud of the commitment our district is making to this cadre. I believe it will strengthen leadership across the board, ensure continuity for years to come, and most importantly, benefit the students we serve.

At Knott County Schools, we remain dedicated to academic excellence, student well-being, and community engagement. This cadre reflects that dedication, and I am confident that through it, we are building a future where every student can thrive under the guidance of well-prepared, compassionate leaders.
