GlyptusAnn Grider Jones has been a part of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) team since April 2022.
“Everyone is very dedicated to the mission of the agency, and that has stood out to me as a real highlight,” said Jones. “It’s like a team mission and everyone comes together, and that’s what I’ve really loved seeing in my year here.”
As an information officer and awards and recognition coordinator at KDE, Jones highlights exemplary educators, students and schools in the Commonwealth. She organizes events such as the Milken Educator Awards and the upcoming 2024 Kentucky Teacher of the Year recognition ceremony.
“I deal with a lot of programs, so I get to see a wide range of excellence and talent in Kentucky schools,” she said. ”Anything we can do to recognize and support that work is the most valuable to me.
“I’ve enjoyed everything I get to be involved in, and working with everyone on the team to highlight the great work happening within KDE and in classrooms and schools.”
Jones serves as chair of the Testing Board of Review, which is in charge of maintaining the integrity of state-required assessments.
Her work earned her a KDE Strategic Excellence and Achievement Award in June 2023, which is given to employees who go above and beyond in their work for the agency.
With a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications, a master’s in political science and a doctorate in urban and public affairs, Jones previously worked at the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center in public relations and events. She also has a background in journalism, working in print as her first job.
She also worked as a Fulbright teaching assistant on South Korea’s Jeju Island.
Outside of work, Jones enjoys spending the majority of her time with her family. She also enjoys calligraphy and reading, especially the work of Kentucky native poet Wendell Berry.
