From enhanced scholastic opportunities to a diverse array of sports teams and student clubs, in the Russell Independent school district, ALL students are encouraged to take risks and step outside of their comfort zone to stretch their academic, athletic, and personal identities.  Russell Independent is revered for its achievements throughout the years, but the district also continues to look for new ways to improve and expand opportunities for students and never stops striving for and maintaining excellence.

This past year, Russell Independent earned the honor of “District of Distinction” by the Kentucky Department of Education. The district takes great pride in its programs, students, and faculty and staff, and always strives to be the best, both inside and outside of the classroom.

All of Russell Independent’s schools offer an advanced curriculum that begins in the primary grades and continues on to graduation from high school. This very rigorous curriculum helps ensure that students are prepared for college.

Exciting and innovative auxiliary programs and activities are offered throughout the district to encourage character building, teamwork and leadership.  In addition, continued collaboration with Morehead State University, Ashland Community and Technical College and other local higher education institutions provide valuable postsecondary opportunities, in addition to a wide range of Advanced Placement courses taught by Russell Independent teachers.

Student safety is another area of importance for the district.  Over the past several years, many upgrades have been made to district facilities, with input from state and local agencies, to meet the increasing standard of safety and security.

In the Russell Independent school district, the motto is “It’s About Kids!”
