The Barbourville Independent school district is very proud of its tradition – since 1890 it has been preparing children academically. The district boasts many admirable alumni in almost every conceivable field.

Students benefit from a wide variety of research-based instructional programs that promote active engagement through hands-on learning, real-world connections and higher-order thinking. The district offers dual credit opportunities with three area colleges, early-college programs, career and technical training in all technical vocational areas and the GEAR UP Kentucky program. The district has not had a dropout in more than six years and also uses a comprehensive K-12 intervention that targets support for any struggling learner.

Barbourville Independent’s K-PREP, ACT and other assessment data is moving in the right direction, led by our distinguished middle school. The district also has productive professional learning communities. Proficient high school students mentor elementary school students who need additional assistance.

Barbourville Independent strives to appropriately prepare all students for a life of continuous learning through a variety of formats, so that each student will enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and successful, productive career.
