Gov. Andy Beshear has named Harold McKinney of Danville to represent the 3rd Supreme Court District on the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE).

McKinney is a 1969 graduate of Adair County High School. He graduated from Centre College in 1973 and received his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1988. From 2008 to 2018, he served as Boyle County’s judge executive.

In addition, McKinney has worked as a Boyle County Health Department administrator, assistant county attorney, attorney for the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts and was in a private law practice. He currently serves on the Parksville Water District Board, the New Vista Board of Directors and the Kentucky Heritage Council.

McKinney and his wife, Carol Wallace McKinney, have three children and eight grandchildren.

The KBE has 15 members. The governor appoints 11 voting members: seven representing the Supreme Court districts and four representing the state at large. The additional members – the president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, the secretary of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, a high school student and an active elementary or secondary school teacher – serve as non-voting members.

McKinney’s seat previously was filled by Paul Long, who resigned. McKinney will fill the remainder of the term, which expires on April 14, 2028.
