Kentucky Coalition for Advancing Education, L3s discuss their communities’ top education priorities

Several common themes and patterns about what changes need to be made in Kentucky’s public education system emerged during the most recent meeting of the Kentucky Coalition for Advancing Education (KCAE). Many coalition members agreed that more Kentucky students will thrive if state assessments look at more than a simple snapshot of a child.

KDE hires four new specialists to help students with disabilities transition after high school

Students with disabilities have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic compared to their peers without disabilities. The American Rescue Plan: Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ARP ESSER) is providing Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL) a chance to help those students.

Kentucky students chosen for 2022 U.S. Senate Youth Program

Arnav Dharmagadda, a junior at Russell High School (Greenup County) and Lauren Wood, a junior at duPont Manual High School (Jefferson County), were selected from among the state’s top student leaders to be part of the national 104-student delegation of the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), who also will each receive a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate study.

Kentucky FFA members excel at National FFA Convention

Kentucky FFA was well represented at the 94th annual National FFA Convention, which was held Oct. 27-30 in Indianapolis. More than 60,000 FFA members, advisers and guests attended the convention, which is the largest youth organization gathering in the United States.
