Like many of you, I am heartbroken and angered over the tragedy that took place in Uvalde, Texas, on May 25. As is the case in many of your communities, students and staff at Robb Elementary were celebrating the end of this school year, looking ahead to the summer and imagining what the next year of school might bring. In a flurry of senseless violence, all of this was taken away.
Following the Kentucky General Assembly’s decision to disallow an emergency regulation related to paid leave for district employees, leadership from the Kentucky Department of Education met with school district leaders during the Superintendent Webcast on March 8 to provide details on how to move forward for quarantined staff.

Interim Kentucky Education Commissioner Kevin C. Brown told the Local Superintendents Advisory Council at its Jan. 28 meeting of his intention to make two recommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education that would address the requirement that local school board members receive 12 hours of charter school authorization training for the next year.
