The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce that the Department for Public Health, Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS DPH), in conjunction with Kentucky Emergency Management and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, is making adult and youth size face coverings available to all school districts.

Each district allocation is based upon 2019-2020 enrollment data provided by KDE. CHFS DPH is working through regional offices to distribute the face coverings to school districts in a similar fashion to distributions of thermometers earlier this year. Each school district will need to contact the coordinator assigned to their regional office and arrange a time to pick up their allotted number of face coverings. Districts will have to designate the person to pick up the face coverings and that person may be asked for identification before they are released to them.

Distributions will occur in two phases: As the distribution locations already have received allocations for adult face coverings, districts may begin scheduling and pick up of adult face coverings starting on Oct. 5. Youth size face coverings have not been received by the distribution locations, so another pickup date will be shared once they are received. It is anticipated that youth size face coverings will not be received by the distribution locations until the end of October at the earliest.

The Regional Distribution Site spreadsheet identifies the regional distribution sites, and the districts assigned to each site are listed under the region. Also attached is a chart with the site location, coordinator’s name and phone number, and the name of the distributor contact. The last attachment has additional helpful information for this initiative.
