It was a fun day at the park recently for some Lexington kids from The Children’s Spot Daycare. They played at the park, signed up for a library card, had lunch and were part of the Kentucky Summer Food Service Program kickoff press conference.
This was a really enjoyable assignment. The kids were having a great time and the adults were clearly enjoying themselves as well. It’s also wonderful to be at events that involve so many partners and community members.
Calling Kentucky’s children the best investment Kentucky has, First Lady Jane Beshear encouraged people and organizations to sponsor a site or volunteer with the program.
“We’ve been working on a number of efforts to engage children in the environment they live in,” she said.
If you would like to volunteer in some capacity, please contact Michael Sullivan with the Division of School and Community Nutrition with the Kentucky Department of Education, Michael.sullivan@education.ky.gov, or by phone, (502) 564-5625, ext. 4930.
To locate a feeding site, call the National Hunger Hotline at (866) 3HUNGRY or (866) 348-6479.
