(Frankfort, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking feedback on the revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies.

Senate Bill 1 (2017) calls for the Kentucky Department of Education to implement a process for reviewing all academic standards and aligned assessments with one or two content areas to be reviewed each year and every six years after that on a rotating basis.

Beginning Aug. 29 and continuing through Sept. 27, anyone interested is invited to review the revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies to share feedback and suggestions for use during the remaining development process of the new standards. Feedback and comments will be thoughtfully considered and any needed revisions made before bringing forward a final set of proposed standards to the Kentucky Board of Education for action later this year. The current schedule calls for implementation of revised social studies standards in the 2019-2020 school year. The last revision to social studies standards was in 2006.

To provide feedback on the revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies, go to a special online site where you can read the standards and leave comments. Due to the amount of text within the survey, it is recommended that surveys be completed on a full-size computer or laptop.

Questions on this process can be directed to standards@education.ky.gov.
