What: Kentucky School for the Blind’s 183rd Founders Day program

Where: Kentucky School for the Blind, 1867 Frankfort Ave., Louisville
Why: The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) Alumni Association is hosting the annual Founders Day program as the school celebrates 183 years of providing quality educational services to blind and visually impaired students of Kentucky.
Former librarians of KSB will be honored for their contributions to the school. The program will also include several student presentations and musical performances.
The Founders Day celebration will conclude with the presentation of the Paul J. Langan Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented to a former Kentuckian who displays qualities that have had a strong, positive influence on the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired and KSB.
The recipient of the Paul J. Langan Award this year is Mike Hudson, museum director at the American Printing House for the Blind. Hudson made the American Printing House for the Blind museum a prime example of what an organization should be in preserving history and making historical items and information available to the public.
Hudson was instrumental in the display of collections at American Printing House. These collections include the Helen Keller collection obtained from the American Foundation for the Blind and the KSB Alumni Association collection.
Hudson recognized the talents of blind and visually impaired individuals. The “Bards and Storytellers” theater program at American Printing House featuring blind and visually impaired amateur actors is an example of his innovative and creative genius, demonstrating to the public the capability of individuals with vision loss.
A pink flowering eastern redbud tree will be planted in his honor as part of the tradition with Paul J. Langan Distinguished Service Award honorees.
Interested media should check in with KSB Principal Peggy Sinclair-Morris at the Samuel J. Richie Auditorium on the KSB campus.
